Moose Kids Talk – Participants select a topic and develop a presentation for groups of 4 to 9 year olds that they  present to various groups like Sunday School classes, Boys’ and Girls’ Club groups, etc.  Participants prepare written reports on those presentations.  Six participants from this area will be chosen.  $2000 to $12000.  See Ms. Falls for more information.
Big Sun Scholarship Open to any athlete.  $500.  Due June 24, 2010.  Apply at www.bigsunathletics.com
Ronald McDonald House Charities U.S. Scholarship Program Separate scholarships for each ethnicity.  Winners will be exemplary role models in their communities. Apply at www.rmhc.org.  Due February 16, 2010.
ULTA Scholarship $2500.  Pick up a scholarship kit at the ULTA store on Clemson Blvd. today.  Deadline is February 1, 2010.
Kittie Moss Fairey Educational Fund Must have a combined SAT (math, critical reading, and writing) of 1800 or ACT composite of 26.  Parents must not have an adjusted gross income of more than $40,000.  Must be planning to attend a 4 year in state school.  Apply at www.wachoviascholars. com.
Due January 4, 2010.
SC Junior Golf Foundation Scholarship Must have a competitive or recreational interest in golf.  2.75 GPA on a 4.0 scale.  Must attend a four year in state college or university.  Apply online at www.scholarshipprograms.org .  Deadline for receipt of applications and all accompanying materials is January 4, 2010.
ESA Foundation Scholarships 150 scholarships.  Can apply for no more than 3.  $5.00 fee per application.  Apply at www.esaintl.com/esaf.  Note: Check out this web site carefully before you make a decision to send an application fee.
Gates Millennium Scholars Program Open to African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American, or Hispanic American.  GPA of 3.3 on 4.0 scale.  Must be Pell Grant eligible.  Due January 11, 2010.  Amounts vary.  Apply at www.gmsp.org or see Ms. Falls for a paper application.
KFC Scholars Program Must be enrolling in a public, in-state college or university.  $5000 renewable for four years.  GPA 2.75+.  Apply at www.kfcscholars.org.  Online application will be available between December 1, 2009 and February 10, 2010.
Presbyterian College Scholarships Many, many scholarships available.  See Ms  Falls if you are interested in attending PC.
Spartanburg MethodistCollege Full tuition if you have a 3.0 GPA.
America’s National Teenager Scholarship Scoring based on grades, community service, leadership and poise.  $25.00 entry fee.  Deadline is February 27, 2010. See Ms Falls for details.
George W. Jenkins Scholarship Full ride to University of Miami funded by the founder of Publix.  Worth $200,000.  Three scholarships will be awarded in the Southeast.  One nominee per high school.  See Ms. Falls Before November 30 for more details.
Horatio Alger Scholarship
 $5000 - Must have acute financial need (adjusted gross income of family $50,000 or less) – Due October 30 – apply at https://horatioalger.org/scholarships
John Lennon Endowed Scholarship
$5000 – Student must be planning to study communications, performing art, or visual art at a school endowed by the United Negro College Fund – Applications accepted through May 30 – Apply at www.uncf.org and click on the “For Students” tab.
SC Governor’s Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities
Three page essay on the benefits of hiring people with disabilities – Winner will receive a four year scholarship to the SC state supported institution of their choice - Due 1/19/10 – Applicants do not have to have a disability – Apply at www.journalism.scvrd.net.

African American Women in Computer Science

SCADA North-South All-Star Football Game Queen Scholarship Contest

Only one applicant per school - Winners will be judged on academic achievement, extracurricular activities, community service, and a short essay - Ten finalists and a chaperone will be the guests of SCADA for the weekend of December 12 in Myrtle Beach - Queen will receive a $1000 scholarship - Two princesses will receive $500 scholarships - See Ms. Falls for an entry form - Due November 3.

Emory Scholars Program Awards two thirds to full tuition, room, board and fees for Emory University in Atlanta. Completely merit based.  Financial need not considered.  Must be an outstanding student.  WHS can nominate up to 4 students.  See Ms. Falls no later than September 30 for more details.
Goizueta Scholars Program
Small and highly selective program for students planning to major in business at Emory University in Atlanta.  Scholarship covers two thirds to full tuition and fees.  See Ms. Falls by September 30 for more details.
Spartanburg Methodist College
Full tuition if you have a 3.0 GPA.  Generous grants and scholarships are also available to cover cost of room and board.  See Ms. Falls for more info.
Miss South Carolina Pageant Information
 Any girl interested in participating in the Miss South Carolina USA or Miss South Carolina Teen USA Pageant needs to see Ms. Minniear for information and an application.

Wendy's High School Heisman

Johnson C. Smith Gold Scholars Program

Any senior interested in attending Johnson C. Smith should see Ms. Falls. This program offers a free ride to 5 seniors. Must have a 3.5 GPA and 1000 SAT or 24 ACT.

Duke University

Duke University has a new financial aid program designed to make Duke affordable for all students. Parents whose incomes total $60,000 or less no longer have to contribute financially.
