Kathy Berry-Burns

Kathy Berry-Burns was born in Anderson, SC, to Gertrude Johnson Berry, an English teacher who spent the majority of her career at Westside High School. So, even though Belton Honea Path is her high school alma mater, she’s always felt right at home in the halls of Westside.  After high school, she attended Columbia College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English. She then followed in her mother’s footsteps and began her first year of teaching English at Westside High School. After 11 years in the classroom, she enrolled at Anderson University where she earned her Master’s in Secondary School Administration. This degree opened up the opportunity to move into school leadership roles, such as Administrative Assistant and Assistant Principal. She now serves as the Graduation Coach where she is primarily responsible for providing the extra support needed to ensure that all students earn a high school diploma.

In addition to her professional career, Mrs. Berry-Burns enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She is married to Deangelo Burns and is the mother of three sons: Caleb, Nyles, and Deangelo, Jr.

Mrs. Berry-Burns is proud to be an educator, and she’s proud to be a RAM! Her mission is to help Westside High School and Westside’s community T.H.R.I.V.E. -- Thinking Higher, Rising above the Impossible, Vying for Excellence.
