David Coyne - Assistant Principal for Instruction

David Coyne grew up in Central Florida and graduated from Lake Wales High School.  After high school, he attended Erskine College, Due West, SC and received his Bachelor’s in Mathematics.  Later, he earned a Master’s in School Leadership and is currently working on an Education Specialist Degree in School Leadership through Furman University.
 
Mr. Coyne spent 18 years in the Upstate of SC, all of them at Wren High School.  He enjoyed teaching Math and coaching football and tennis for ten years, then, in 2001, became an Assistant Principal.  In 2007, Mr. Coyne was named the Director of the Freshman Academy, where he helped implement a Federal Smaller Learning Community Grant and started an AVID Program.  In 2010, he moved to Hickory, NC to become the Principal at Hickory High School.  After three years, Mr. Coyne and his family returned to South Carolina, where he served Blythewood High School as an Assistant Principal and AVID Administrator.  
 
Mr. Coyne has been married to his wife, Jennifer, for 30 years, and they have three children.  Savannah is a freshman softball player at USC-Sumter, Patrick is attending Tri-County , and Meredith Trapp is married and works as a first-grade teacher in Columbia.  Meredith lives in Blythewood with her husband, Dylan, who is a Field Training Officer for the Richland County Sheriff Department.
