William DeVane - Administrative Assistant

Mr. Devane was born in 1962 in Jacksonville, N.C.  Growing up as the younger brother to four sisters, he had a lot to live up to.  When he graduated in 1980 from Jacksonville Senior High School, he met and exceeded those expectation by continuing to Clemson University on a full football scholarship.  His time with the Clemson Tigers included winning the 1981 National Championship.

After graduating from Clemson in 1985 with an Elementary Education degree, Mr. DeVane began teaching and coaching.  He began working for Hart County High School (GA) in 1987 and in 1998 became the first black head football coach in the history of the school.  Throughout the years he worked at other schools, but came back to Hart County in 2006 as an administrator.  When Mr. Devane retired from Hart County, he concluded his time there as the winningest Head Football Coach in the history of the school, with a record of 72-26-0 in eight years, including three Region Championships.  Mr. Devane will be starting his first year at Westside High School in 2019, where he will serve as Administrative Assistant and Head Coach to the 9th grade football coach.

Mr. Devane has been married for 24 years to Tish DeVane, and has two daughters.  Darrah Rose DeVane is a senior at Emory University in Atlanta, GA, and Brittany Nicole DeVane is a sophomore at Piedmont College in Demorest, GA.
